Christopher Biggins to star in Christmas Show at Plymouth Theatre Royal

KING of the jungle and Dame of Panto Dames Christopher Biggins has been announced as the star of this year's Christmas show at the Theatre Royal, Plymouth.
Biggins, in the role of Widow Twankey, will headline this year’s traditional family pantomime Aladdin.
Biggins rose to fame with a TV career in the seventies and eighties, with roles in Porridge and children's TV quiz show On Safari. His career was kickstarted again in 2007 when he appeared on and won ITV's I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here and went on to win Channel 4's Celebrity Come Dine With Me.
Along with the traditional elements of comedy, stunning sets and outrageous costumes, Aladdin in Plymouth will also feature an array of outstanding 3D special effects.
Biggins will have a very special co-star as the Genie of the Lamp comes to life in amazing 3D.
Wearing special 3D glasses the audience will see the Genie rise from his lamp and move around the auditorium as he interacts with the crowd and cast on stage.
Further visual wizardry will transform the stage into a 3D cave of riches, where Aladdin finds his fortune and you can join the cast on a 3D magic carpet ride to Abanazar’s lair.
Christopher Biggins said: “I'm thrilled to be taking my Widow Twanky to the Theatre Royal Plymouth - a theatre I adore and I know every one will be on the edge of their seat with my larger than life performance!”
Aladdin runs at the Theatre Royal from Friday 18 December 2009 to Saturday 23 January 2010. Tickets are now on sale from the Theatre Royal Box Office on 01752 267222 or online at www.theatreroyal.com

The Saturdays set to perform in Plymouth

The Saturdays set for Plymouth Pavilions show (news)
Girl group The Saturdays are set to visit Plymouth Pavilions this summer as part of their first headline tour.
The band consists of Frankie Sandford, Rochelle Wiseman, Vanessa White, Mollie King and Una Healy. Both Sandford and Wiseman were formerly part of S Club Juniors.
Una told WOSW: “I can’t believe we are about to go out on our first very own tour. We hadn’t even released our debut single this time last year and nobody knew us. So many great things have happened.”
The Saturdays have had a growing fanbase since their first single was released in 2008 and also have a number of celebrity fans including Girls Aloud (who they supported on their Tangled Up tour in 2008), the Pussycat Dolls, and Lily Allen.
The group's debut album, Chasing Lights, produced three UK top ten singles, If This Is Love, Up, and Issues, and was said by The Times to 'eclipse recent efforts of the Sugababes and Pussycat Dolls'.
The band recently released the Comic Relief single, Just Can't Get Enough, a cover of the Depeche Mode original.
This reached number two in the UK Singles Chart. The band re-issued their album this month to include the charity record. A new single will be released to coincide with the tour.
They were last seen in the region switching on Barnstaple's Christmas lights.
The Saturdays hit Plymouth Pavilions on July 1. Tickets cost £20 and go on sale at 10am on March 21. Call 0845 146 1460 for details.

Jimmy Carr Adds Extra Plymouth Pavillions Date

Due to popular demand, Jimmy Carr has added another Plymouth date to his UK tour, heading to the Plymouth Pavilions for a sell-out show on June 27 and the new date of Friday, July 31.

This summer Jimmy will take his dry and sardonic one-liners to a whole new level as he launches his brand new live tour, Joke Technician.

Never one to recycle jokes, the Joke Technician tour will contain all-new, unseen material, completely updated from that seen in any of his previous performances and DVD releases.
As Jimmy explained: “This show is exactly the same as last year’s except every single word. It’s rude, crude and offensive but those aren’t the only reasons you’ll enjoy it.”

Tickets for the new Plymouth date (which is not suitable for under 16s) cost £20 on 0845 146 1460 or visit http://www.plymouthpavilions.com/
